On Sept. 23, 2024, the City Commission adopted an ordinance prohibiting the tethering of dogs or cats to stationary objects except when specific conditions are met. The penalty includes a maximum fine of $500.

Tethering animals unsafely can cause injury, increased aggressiveness, exposure to disease-carrying insects or even death.
